The design resembles the Tilley 284 glass, which was one of the standard accessories when the Tilley KL80 was first released. Metalworking has always been a strong point in Taiwan, so when making a lamp, it is relatively easy to commission Taiwanese companies to handle the metal parts. However, a lamp is not just made of metal—it may also include ceramic, wood, glass, lampshades, and wicks.
In particular, Hsinchu, where I am based, has historically been a major hub for the glass industry, but now only a few local manufacturers remain. Previously, the opportunity to collaborate with local manufacturers had not arisen. However, with small-scale production now in place, and thanks to the cooperation of the manufacturers, glass production has been incorporated into Taiwan’s supply chain.
We will continue to transition other parts of production from outside to local, and we thank everyone who has supported us along the way.
