Kerosene vapor lamps first appeared in Europe and America in the late 19th century when electricity was not yet widespread, becoming an essential tool for daily lighting, a practice that continued into the 1970s. However, there are no formal records of vapor lamp manufacturing in Taiwan’s history, making this project likely the first production of kerosene vapor lamps in Taiwan.

Inspired by the classic British brand Tilley, we conceived the idea of designing our own brand of kerosene vapor lamps in early 2015. By November of that year, we officially began the development of the KVL-1 kerosene vapor lamp and established the “Kite Lamps” brand, aiming to release more related products in the future to meet the needs of camping enthusiasts and vapor lamp collectors.

This journey initially started by helping a friend repair an R10 stove stand. I don’t recall the exact year, but a friend, passionate about stoves, had purchased an R10 stove from abroad, only to find the stand was rusted and unusable. Even if some stands were in better condition, he hesitated to use them frequently because each use would damage the anti-rust coating, and without proper maintenance, the stand would quickly corrode.

Knowing my experience in making metal stands, friends asked me to create replacements, so they could use their stoves without worry. This small favor led me to start making stove accessories, eventually growing into the scale we have today.

Today, I am deeply grateful to all the friends who have supported me, allowing Taiwan to leave its mark in the history of stove making and giving us the opportunity to share this classic craftsmanship with more enthusiasts and collectors.
